The Acknowlegment of Sex-based Discrimination

“Weinberger v. Wiesenfeld” was an abnormal and uncommon case in the 1970s. It was a case in which the law had failed to protect a man. It was a case in which a man had been discriminated against based solely on gender. This case enthralled Ruth Bader Ginsburg because it was the opportunity she had been waiting for. This case could prove to those opposing the fact that sex-based discrimination is real and very prominent in our society. This case had the ability to stand out from other gender discrimination cases because a man had been shorted by society’s gender roles. It showed that these laws don’t only hinder the female gender but the male gender as well. It fought the argument from the same point of view of the oppressors.

The winning of the court case, "Weinberger v. Wiesenfeld", was the start of corporate regulations and policies put in place to protect the workplace from discrimination based on gender. This case also provided publicity of the issues and injustices women were still facing. It exposed the oppression women were still under in the male dominated workplaces. As Ruth Bader Ginsburg said when quoting Sarah Grimké, "I ask no favor for my sex. All I ask of our brethren is that they take their feet off our necks." She was fighting for equality of the genders, for there was no reason women could not do the same work as men.
